The Fresh Ground Pepper PlayGround PlayGroup hosts artists in a 16 month, residency program that celebrates the joyful creation of new work.

Now in its 7th year, this program welcomes creators from all disciplines — playwrights, writers, composers, directors, poets, game designers, performance artists, installationists, chefs, and beyond — to develop an artistic project of their design within the structure of an engaged, curious, and supportive peer group.

Artists will attend bi-monthly meetings, where fresh work and inspirations are shared, where exploration is encouraged, and where the snacks flow freely. We encourage you to submit the project you’re most passionate about: the one that keeps you up at night, the one you think you shouldn’t create, the one that you think might change the world, or the one you have no idea how to handle.

Every participating individual (or artist team) will have numerous opportunities to lead the room throughout the year, in whatever way supports their project. Fresh Ground Pepper encourages its artists to explore their process – the “how” in equal parts to the “what” – the PlayGround PlayGroup is here to facilitate that process.

Deadline for submissions is 11:59 pm on Tuesday, November 20th. We may follow up with you with more specific questions about your work and/or to request additional materials for review. All applicants will be notified by January 7th, 2019.

The group will begin meeting in February 2019. Major program events include a short summer retreat in July/August 2019, open workshops in October 2019, and a culminating showing in the 2020 FGP Festival.

Please let us know if you have any large conflicts that will take you away from New York City between February 2019 and May 2020. As group participation is central to the ethos of the PlayGroup program, we appreciate and will take into consideration schedule flexibility and your ability to be there for your peers.
